Masters of the sci-fi film industry arriving in Mandurah.
The Mandurah and regional communities are invited to walk the red carpet for an international film premiere and learn from award winning creative experts.
The second Space Brains Sci-Fi Film Festival, an international science fiction film festival, will take place Saturday 17th June 2023.
Two industry led workshops will kick off the day at WOTSO Mandurah. The first is a podcasting workshop run by popular and talented podcasters Space Brains (Mark Regan and Surrey Hughes) who have created 101 podcast episodes.
Gifted and world-renowned sci-fi author Stephen Dedman will then host the second workshop, teaching practical writing techniques for budding writers.
Following the workshops, audiences will have the opportunity to walk the red carpet, mingle with celebrities, directors, authors, actors, and film crew before watching the greatest short sci-fi films from the entire universe.
A keynote speech by international multi-award-winning filmmaker feature filmmaker, Luke Sparke (Occupation Film Series can be found on Netflix) will launch the film festival. Audiences will have the opportunity to watch on the big cinema screen the best short sci-fi films the world has to offer being at Reading Cinemas Mandurah.
Mark Regan, award winning filmmaker and festival director said: “Space Brains Productions aims to elevate and promote the creative arts in Mandurah. We want to promote local filmmakers and writers to allow fellow Western Australians the chance to learn and grow.”
Surrey Hughes, sci-fi author, and festival coordinator said: “Science fiction is not just exciting, but it also helps society pave its way from now into the future. By having amazing local creatives pass on their knowledge, we can ensure WA and Mandurah have a place in that future.”
The Space Brains Sci-Fi Film Festival is a competition for independent science fiction filmmakers to highlight their films and talents. The festival draws particular focus on the work of regional Western Australian filmmakers to help give them a platform to speak about their projects.
