Cast Announcement: Mother’s Tongue
Excited to announce the talented cast of our upcoming short film, Mother’s Tongue, a thought-provoking drama that dives into the emotional and creative journey of a young artist. This film, set to explore the powerful themes of familial duty and personal expression, has attracted some exceptional talent. Let’s introduce the incredible actors who will bring this story to life.
Julia Rose Cukrov (Julz Cukrov) as Lucy
Playing the lead role of Lucy is the multi-talented Julz Cukrov, an Australian actor of Croatian and New Zealand descent. Inspired by Sharon Stone’s performance in *The Quick and the Dead*, Julz’s passion for acting ignited at just 10 years old, and she hasn’t looked back since. With a rich educational background, including studies at WAAPA, NIDA, and The London Academy of Media, Film and Television, Julz has honed her craft across theatre and film. Her diverse experience includes roles in *Sex Toy Story* (2022), *It’s a Plan* (2023), and *Two Fists, One Heart* (2008). With her intense dedication and talent, Julz is poised to deliver a compelling performance as Lucy—a woman on the verge of breaking free from the constraints imposed by her role as her mother’s carer.
Celia Janes as the Mother
Taking on the pivotal role of Lucy’s elderly, critical mother is the highly versatile and experienced actor, Celia Janes. Celia’s impressive range has seen her embody characters across the spectrum, from nurturing maternal figures to chilling villains. Whether portraying a loving grandmother or a hardened criminal, Celia’s depth and professionalism make her the perfect fit for this complex role. Her ability to capture the nuanced dynamic between mother and daughter promises to be a highlight of the film.
Jestin Kariyanattu as the Art Critic
Rounding out the cast is the versatile Jestin Kariyanattu, who will be stepping into the shoes of an art critic pivotal to Lucy’s journey. Jestin’s impressive background in theatre, commercials, and short films demonstrates his ability to take on a wide range of roles, from emotionally charged characters to more lighthearted figures. His performances in films like *Kanal* (2022) and *Kavachitham* (2023) have earned him acclaim, and we are thrilled to have him bring his talents to Mother’s Tongue.
Stay tuned as we continue to share behind-the-scenes insights, and get ready for the film’s powerful exploration of creativity, familial ties, and the courage it takes to embrace your true artistic voice.
