Want to discover what’s Behind the Lens of Behind the Lens?

Behind the Lens is a unique theatre film workshop that I've written and am directing as part of the City of Mandurah Arts Festival 2024.

Over the last week the priority has moved beyond the scripting and planning. Now we are at the part that gets very exciting, which is breathing life into the script with the actors.

I put a casting call out to the filmmaking and actor networks and people that I know and had a great bunch of actors apply. Actors completed video auditions for one of the roles.

This is a special show for actors as they are not just going to be playing one character. There is multiple characters, different scenes, and scenarios to play with throughout the show.

A talented bunch of actors auditioned, and from that I narrowed it down to the three successful candidates. It was a hard choice, but I am very happy with the final three super gifted actors. I am excited to be working with them and see what they also bring to the script.

I have my vision as a writer and director, but I love working with actors and getting them to contribute their talents and ideas to bring the script alive. Actors can add their interpretation of their character to the story which really brings the words on the page alive in front of the camera and in this case audience.

From here, we are moving on to table read of the script, working on logistics and rehearsals.  This is where the actors and I can plan pacing and blocking out the space of the scenes.

If you have ever wanted to get involved a film crew and jump on a camera – grab a ticket and have a play with a camera, actors and unique scenes.

The show is a deep dive on how the camera lens affects us, society and our perception.

The show takes a deep dive into how the camera lens influences us, our society, and the way we perceive the world around us. Throughout the performance, you'll have the chance to step into the spotlight, working with a real filmmaker, actors, cinematographer, and film equipment sound, lighting, and sets, immersing yourself in the production process.

Together, we'll explore the profound impact this technology has on our lives. Will we uncover answers about the role of cameras in shaping our reality, or will we leave with more questions?

Either way, this experience invites you to reflect on the pervasive nature of the lens in today’s world.
