Create a short film - course

Participants will be introduced to the four stages of making a short film. Participants will learn how to make a short film (plan, shoot, edit and produce).

The four-week course aims to hold an interactive, practical film industry.

The course will be hands-on experience where participants will participate in a learning how to craft and produce a short fictional film. During the course there will be a hands-on exercise to help participants create their own film.

Students will be guided and advised through the process by the instructor.

The course will cover the key aspects:

• Week 1 Story – how to create a short story. Attendees will complete a creative brainstorming and writing activity.

• Week 2 Preproduction – the tools involved in preproduction (storyboard, meetings, auditions). Attendees will create a storyboard.

• Week 3 Production – lights, camera, action with utilising locations, equipment, crew and crafting the visual story. Attendees will shoot a scene of a film.

• Week 4 Postproduction & Marketing (film festivals, social media, and promotion) – editing a film, adding music and the final changes. Plus, how to market your film for the festival circuit, premiere events, and online environment. Attendees will create a plan to market their film.

• Week 5 Premiere red-carpet event

Participants will work in groups of four or five to plan, shoot, edit and publish a short film. All short films will be shot in Mandurah and have a sense of the Mandurah identity within their storylines.

Students will be guided and advised through the process by the instructor.

Each lesson will have content delivered to participants, followed by hands on activities to help the students create their films.
